Our children are our future – our responsibility.
Whether they’ll admit it or not, they look to us to keep them safe and healthy, to nurture them and let them thrive in strong, stable communities. Our first line of defense is prevention – we have to do all we can to protect children from harmful behaviors.
The Step Up campaign urges parents – and all adults – to play a more active role in preventing underage drinking. Underage drinking in Delaware is a problem. The data shows us that ONE in FOUR youth begins drinking before the age of 13. TWO in THREE eleventh graders drink. We need to try to reverse these trends.
Using various communication media, the Step Up campaign:
- helps adults recognize and change behaviors that facilitate
- provides ideas for effective “house rules” to help adults protect
kids from underage drinking
- encourages parents to block teens from access to alcohol
- highlights the consequences of underage drinking to discourage
